The Hollywood Reporter annually ranks film programs in the United States based on how well they prepare students for a future in the industry. The College has been consistently lauded for giving its Film students extensive hands-on experience while immersed in a world-class art school community. The publication has also praised the program鈥檚 high-tech facilities centered on the 四虎影视 Studio Labs, which is the first commercial and academic film and post-production facility of its kind in the state of Florida.

For the second consecutive year, Motion Design was ranked #1 in the world for Motion Graphics. The program has occupied top positions in the rankings almost every year and has celebrated three Rookie of the Year Awards over the last five years. The program grabbed #2 in the United States for Visual Effects, thanks to the work of MD faculty member Christian Huthmacher, who has worked hard to bring the program鈥檚 VFX work into the spotlight. They were also ranked  #11 in the World for 2D Animation, and #3 in the United States. Morgan Williams has been incorporating more hand-drawn elements alongside the 2D computer animation project assignments.  

搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 3D Computer Animation program once again ranked #1 in the United States for Production Excellence and #3 worldwide. They were also ranked #1 in the United States for Production Excellence in 3D Animation and #5 worldwide.

Virtual Reality Development was named #1 in the United States for Production Excellence in Immersive Media and #2 in the United States for Immersive Media. 

Game Art claims #2 in the United States for Game Design and Development. The College was also named #2 in the United States for Concept Art.  

These designations are especially significant today, as colleges all around the country face challenges and even close down. This year, 四虎影视 was ranked #1 in the world for Motion Graphics. The Motion Design department has had a lot to celebrate lately鈥攕tudents from the program have taken the Rookie of the Year Award for three out of four consecutive years and they have occupied top-ranking positions for the Rookies Best of Motion Design rankings almost every year.

And that鈥檚 not all. 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 3D Computer Animation program ranked #1 in the U.S for Production Excellence and #3 worldwide. The celebrated animation program is well-known for producing highly-skilled and industry-ready animators.

They considered over 700 schools with graphic design programs from across the U.S. in preparing this year’s rankings. In their seventh annual list of film school rankings, Ringling took the No. 20 spot this year, up from No. 21 in 2021. The list of the was released this week.

TheWrap is an American online news website covering the business of entertainment and media via digital, print, and live events. 

About 40 students join 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 highly competitive Film program each year to study one of two tracks (narrative storytelling or branded entertainment). Students learn to write, produce, direct, and edit films beginning their freshman year using the College鈥檚 state-of-the art facilities and equipment. The campus has more than 30,000 square feet of soundstage and postproduction space (across five soundstages and 15 editing suites). 

Industry professionals from across the country travel to Sarasota to use the cutting-edge Studio Labs soundstage, equipment, and post production facilities to produce their films, giving students the opportunity to connect with many of the world鈥檚 best known filmmakers, screenwriters, producers, directors, and actors.

鈥淭hese connections often lead to job offers and professional credits for our students before they even graduate,鈥� said Brad Battersby, head of the 四虎影视 Film Department.

四虎影视 Film alumni have gone on to work for leading film companies across the world, including  Netflix, Disney, Comedy Central, MTV, NBC, and ABC.

In the 2022-23 academic year, 四虎影视 welcomed its highest enrollment of all time with a total student headcount of 1,705. This is a growth increase of 40% since 2014 when 1,219 students were enrolled. Historically, the College has more than quadrupled its enrollment since 1985, when only 399 students were enrolled. This enrollment also represents the most racially and ethnically diverse student population in the College鈥檚 history. 

So yes, the College is growing substantially, but what are some of the driving factors to which we can attribute this growth? And what active steps are we taking to accommodate such growth?

Internationalization

四虎影视 is currently educating its largest number of international students, who now make up 21% of the total enrollment from 57 countries around the world. The College is also a proud participant of the program, hosting 41 scholars on campus for the 2022-23 academic year. This integration of different cultures, along with students from nearly every US state and Puerto Rico, helps create a richly diverse and culturally vibrant learning and living environment on campus. 

Cutting-Edge and Forward-Thinking Degree Programs 

四虎影视 prides itself as always being at the forefront of the creative industries. Recent program introductions to reflect industry demand have included the 鈥榖uild-your-own鈥� Visual Studies BA program, a Virtual Reality Development BFA program which is the first of its kind in the world at any art and design school and saw its first graduating class in spring 2022, and the Entertainment Design BFA, which focuses on themed built environments. 

Existing majors have also been growing and updating per industry standards. 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 Game Art BFA program is a great example showing alignment and adaptation in the marketplace. The Game Art program is at its highest enrollment of all time with more than 200 students, a 43% increase in the past 10 years.

Other majors, including the world-renowned Computer Animation BFA and Illustration BFA programs also experienced their strongest enrollment of all time for the 2022-23 school year.

The College is also home to the Ringling Rollers, 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 inaugural varsity esports team.

Student Success

四虎影视 has always been committed to its students and providing them with the highest level of professional support, both as current students and as alumni.  The College has seen its third consecutive year of an increase in our retention rate, which is also above the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design鈥檚 (AICAD) average. In preparation for graduation, the Center for Career Services routinely brings over 100 of the industries鈥� top recruiters to campus (or virtually when needed). Recruiters provide valuable critiques to students鈥� work and interview for internships and employment. Many of our graduates are securing competitive, full-time positions before they even graduate. 四虎影视 is dedicated to helping students turn their passion into a solid, lucrative profession. Rankings and Facilities

In the world of higher education, rankings matter. 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 renowned Computer Animation BFA program is currently ranked #1 in the world by The Rookies for the second year running. 

四虎影视 is ranked #2 in the World for Motion Graphics and #3 in the World for Game Design and Development 鈥� Production Excellence also by The Rookies. 

Illustration is ranked #3 in the US and #1 in the South and Florida by Animation Career Review. 

Many other programs boast competitive rankings and awards, including being recognized as a Top 25 Film School in the US and a Top Graphic Design School in Florida.

As enrollment numbers continue to steadily grow, so must the campus facilities to support such growth. In the past five years alone, the 四虎影视 campus has evolved substantially. 2017 saw the opening of the Alfred R. Goldstein Library, 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 鈥榣ibrary of the future鈥� complete with collaborative project spaces, Cintiq stations, special collections, and more. 

In 2018, the Richard and Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center opened, containing state-of-the-art makerspaces for printmaking, glassblowing, woodworking, letterpress, and photography. 四虎影视 Studio Labs were also completed in 2018, providing two 8,400 sq. ft. soundstages and a post-production facility for student and professional use. 

New residence halls have also been in demand, with Bridge Apartments opening in 2018 for upperclassmen and Greensboro Hall opening in 2020 for first-year students, amongst full renovations of existing campus housing. A new dining facility and market, Cunniffe Commons will open in January 2023.

And let鈥檚 not forget the opening of the 鈥揝arasota鈥檚 first museum dedicated to contemporary exhibitions and showcasing the 鈥榓rt of our time.鈥� Located in the repurposed historic Sarasota High School building, the Museum opened its doors in December 2019. An extension of 四虎影视, Sarasota Art Museum serves as the College鈥檚 and community鈥檚 living laboratory for the exploration of contemporary art and continuing education.

In addition to the statistics and accolades above, much of 四虎影视鈥檚 success can also be attributed to our technology, teachers, and tenacity.

The College is made flexible and nimble thanks in large part to its high-end technology resources and dedicated IT department. During the height of the pandemic, students were able to access 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 high-powered software and computers remotely, from anywhere in the world.

四虎影视 faculty also play a big role in student success. As practicing professionals, they are experts in their fields and are wholeheartedly committed to each and every student. 搁颈苍驳濒颈苍驳鈥檚 Computer Animation program gives students experience across all facets of the animation industry. Students learn to create characters and tell their stories as well as design, paint, model, texture, animate, light, composite, and edit original films. Students learn to combine essential technical skills with conceptually original ideas that affect the audience visually, emotionally, and intellectually. 

Created from the convergence of animation, graphic design, advertising, and filmmaking, Ringling’s Motion Design program is cross-disciplinary at its core. Students learn how to craft powerful animated visual communications for any type of screen, integrating various image-making technologies and media including 2D and 3D animation, stop motion, visual effects, graphic design, concept development, videography, and sound design.

The Game Art program challenges students to develop artistic techniques, study the mechanics of computer and video game design and interactivity, and master leading software while learning textures, lighting, player options, and engagement. Students are challenged to make playable experiences that put their hands on the controller to execute stellar games with rich stories. 

Rookie (student) Awards

Ringling Computer Animation alumni also took top spots in the 12^th annual student 鈥淩ookie of the Year (2022)鈥� competition. 

• In the , Alexandria Siah 鈥�22 was named the 2022 Rookie of the Year. Fellow Ringling student Kate Valliant 鈥�22 was selected as the Runner Up.

• In the , Amanda Godreau 鈥�22 was named the 2022 Rookie of the Year. Fellow student Daniel Salaverri 鈥�22 won the 鈥淧eople鈥檚 Choice鈥� award.

More than 4,401 entries were submitted for the competition from 523 schools in 91 countries.
