Twelve local college students and graduates, four of whom are 四虎影视 of Art and Design students and alumni, have been selected to exhibit their work in Visions in Black.

Out of 14 students who submitted their work, 12 college students and graduates were chosen by the jurors to participate.

Visions in Black is a juried art exhibition celebrating the talents and love of the arts by showcasing artists of African descent who reside in Florida. This year Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative (SBAC) is honored to have received a generous grant and sponsorship from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and is pleased to collaborate on this exhibit with Art Center Sarasota (ACS). We also would like to thank Cordelia Lee Beattie Foundation for its financial support. We look forward to celebrating two-dimensional fine art by Artists of African Descent and continuing to encourage and inspire young emerging artists of color to participate in this 2022 exhibition.鈥

The 2022 Visions in Black exhibition will be held at from January 27 – March 5, with an Opening Reception (all are welcome to attend) on February 10 from 6-8 pm. Financial awards ranging from Honorable Mentions up to $1,000 will be presented.听

Congratulations to the exhibiting artists!

About Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative:

Florida鈥檚 Suncoast is renowned for its unparalleled commitment to the visual and performing arts. Residents and visitors are consistently exposed to an impressive array of art exhibitions, theatrical productions, film festivals, and music concerts. While we are all justifiably proud of the local commitment to the arts, it is important to ensure that works produced by artists belonging to underrepresented groups are appropriately represented throughout our artistic landscape.

The entire community benefits tremendously when ample opportunities exist to expand knowledge and appreciation of the innovative ways in which different cultures have used the arts to describe and interpret the lived experience.

Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative is comprised of a small group of individuals with a strong interest in increasing the visibility of works produced by artists of color with a specific interest in artists of African descent. The dual mission of the organization is:

  1. To advocate for greater exposure to Artists of African descent throughout the  Suncoast Arts community
  2. To  provide educational forums/symposia to expose students and art patrons to the work of Artists of African descent
