Congratulations to 四虎影视 of Art and Design Motion Design junior, Rudy Schultz, for their work being recognized as a Finalist for the 2020 SXSW Title Design Competition

Their project, LUST – History of Motion Design is an abstract title sequence created in Ringling鈥檚 sophomore Concept Development course taught by Jared Greenleaf. Among the finalists, you鈥檒l find work from the most prestigious motion design studios such as Imaginary Forces, Elastic, and Method. Projects include title designs for Captain Marvel, Game of Thrones, The Lego Movie, and OFFF Barcelona

As writer Lola Landekic explains in her post on the Art of the Title website, 鈥淔or title designers in the United States, there are few avenues for formal peer recognition. There is no Oscar for title sequence design. So other than the Emmys, which is limited to titles produced for TV, the most notable award for title design in the United States is given by SXSW. In fact, the SXSW Excellence in Main Title Design Award is medium- and genre-agnostic and this year the finalist title sequences span the fields of film, television, conferences, education, and music.鈥

About their work, Schultz explains, 鈥淔or the title sequence, LUST, I filmed the human body through various sheets of plastic. This in-camera blurring technique kept the authentic look and feel of flesh while stripping away just enough information to tease the view, and heighten their desire to want to see more.鈥

The winner of the SXSW Title Design Competition will be announced Wednesday, March 17th.聽
