Computer Animation alum Echo Wu鈥檚 new animated series Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld was released on Netflix last month. The eponymous character of the series is voiced by comedian, writer, and actor Ali Wong, who is joined by familiar voices Lori Tan Chinn (Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, Orange Is the New Black), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill, Charlie鈥檚 Angels), and Jimmy O. Yang (Interior Chinatown, Silicon Valley). The show received 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The animation follows Chinese-American 16-year-old Jentry, who has just discovered she is being hunted by a demon king who hopes to steal the superpowers she鈥檚 been hiding her whole life, while also navigating run-of-the-mill teen problems.
Echo Wu 鈥16 is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the series. All 13 episodes are streaming now on Netflix.

Computer Animation alum releasing Netflix animated series

四虎影视 of Art and Design alum Echo Wu 鈥16, Computer Animation, is currently in post-production on her Netflix animated series, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld.
As creator and director of Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, she shared that the series is inspired in part by her own experiences as a first-generation Chinese-American. It follows a teenage girl with superpowers who battles demons while navigating high school in a small Texas town. Stand-up comedian, writer, and actress Ali Wong gives voice to the main character Jentry.
Wu was listed as one of Variety magazine鈥檚 2024 鈥10 Animators to Watch鈥 for the Netflix series. In addition to her own life, she told Variety that she was also inspired by Gen Z and 鈥渢heir love of random humor and unhinged personalities.鈥
In 2016 and 2017, Wu and Ringling classmates Kaloyan Athannassov and John McDonald won recognition from the Student Academy Awards, the College Emmys, and a number of film festivals for their senior thesis film, The Wishgranter. Read more about that film and its reception in our news archives.
