Each year, hosts the exhibit War Paint: Profiles of Courage. The exhibition showcases the work of 四虎影视 students and faculty as they honor and share the stories of local veterans through captivating portraits.

It offers an opportunity for two unlikely groups to spend time together. Veterans, who may never have stepped foot in an art gallery or gotten to know an art student鈥攁nd the art student who might otherwise have no reason to get to know a veteran鈥攕hare the meaningful experience.

These works narrate tales that span the battlefields of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan to the steadfast resolve of current enlisted troops. The artists humanize the narratives of these conflicts, encapsulating their profound significance for our service men and women.

Veterans and students mingled at the opening for the War Paint exhibition.

Celebrating the exhibition鈥檚 sixth year, the College takes immense pride in unveiling this year鈥檚 installment of . This year鈥檚 theme of the Greatest Generation highlights the experiences of the military who were active during the Great Depression, their roles in World War II, and their contributions to post-war rebuilding.

四虎影视 of Art and Design Veteran鈥檚 Club student president Josh Thomas Bray 鈥24, Creative Writing, wrote an article for Sarasota Scene Magazine on the upcoming exhibition, War Paint: Profiles of Courage. In the article Bray shared the importance of the exhibition, 鈥淚n a world that sometimes feels fragmented, this artistic endeavor unites the threads of the community, forging a connection between Veteran, artist, and admirer.鈥

features 100 portraits of local veterans painted by 四虎影视 students and faculty. Each year the exhibition includes a subtheme. In the past, the gallery has been painted in camouflage, stars and stripes, and red, white, and blue bands. This year, the theme is more conceptual, considering the six branches of the military.听聽

The exhibition will be open for the campuswide art event, Art Walk, on Friday, Nov. 10, from 5-8 pm. The exhibition includes images that tell stories from WWll, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and current enlisted troops with the goal of humanizing distant conflicts. The annual exhibit is a collaboration of 四虎影视 Galleries and the College鈥檚 Veteran鈥檚 Club and is emblematic of the institution鈥檚 efforts to support veteran students.

In the spring of 2023, 四虎影视 had 15 veterans and military-affiliated students graduate. This fall, 28 new students who are veterans or dependents of veterans started at the College, moving our total from 69 enrolled military affiliates to 82.

Also celebrating Veterans Day, a memorial sculpture by Ringling alum Dawn Agnew-Mundell 鈥99, Illustration, will be dedicated at The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch, a retirement community here in Sarasota, today. The bronze Veterans & Visionaries Memorial Eagle has been a year in the making and was commissioned to honor the 355 veterans who have lived at The Glenridge since it opened.

四虎影视 of Art and Design made the 2023 Military Times Best for Vets College List and was designated a Military Friendly庐 School for the 2023-2024 Military Friendly庐 Cycle.

These efforts are made possible by the Veterans and Military Affiliated Services Department, which provides information and services needed for students using, or looking to use, VA educational benefits. The department assists with charting the transition from military life and helps promote the student鈥檚 knowledge of resources, self-growth, and connections.

Two of 四虎影视 of Art and Design鈥檚 staff designers took second place for their design projects at the Association of University Interior Designers Design Competition 2023.

Facilities Commercial Designer and Project Manager and Ringling alum Monique Chicvak 鈥17, Interior Design, and Assistant Director of Capital Construction Becky Owens won for their design of the new Esports Arena and the Patriot Plaza Resilience Panel Project, respectively.

Located at the west end of the campus鈥 Ann and Alfred Goldstein Hall, the arena boasts 1200-square-feet of gaming space complete with 10 state-of-the-art gaming stations; a lounge viewing and playing area; four console stations, each with 83鈥 TV, XBOX庐 Series X, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch; and PC stations equipped with top gaming equipment and 4090 graphics cards.

Of the Arena project, Chicvak stated, 鈥淭his was such a fun and important project to work on for the College. The arena boasts state-of-the-art gaming technology, custom ceiling lighting that resembles a computer chip, and provides a space for students to build friendships and community.鈥

On April 21, 2023, the sculpture Resilience by artist Larry Kirkland made its way to its new home at 四虎影视 of Art and Design. Originally installed at Sarasota鈥檚 Patriot Plaza, the sculpture that was once part of the larger series, Testimonies, is now installed in Ringling鈥檚 Ulla Searing Student Center. For Owens, one of her first tasks at 四虎影视 was to select the laminate and metal finishes for the new cabinet that would support the donated artwork. 鈥淭his is one of the things that I love about our profession, that we can be called on for many special projects,鈥 she said.

The annual design competition hosted by the Association of University Interior Designers is an opportunity for university designers鈥 work to be reviewed and critiqued by professional, practicing interior designers in the field. .听

The sculpture, installed in its new home on the second floor of the Ulla Searing Student Center, made its way to 四虎影视 from Patriot Plaza, a 2,8000-seat ceremonial amphitheater at Sarasota National Cemetery.

Friday, April 21, on 四虎影视 of Art and Design鈥檚 Scott Plaza, Resilience was unveiled and dedicated to Ringling鈥檚 community of veterans and military families. A strong and stoic block of white Georgian marble, the sculpture by artist Larry Kirkland was created as part of his larger Testimonies series which were originally installed at Sarasota鈥檚 Patriot Plaza. Each marble and glass tablet in the series features a window of thick glass imprinted with a photographic image. Engraved in the marble are drawings and quotes, reflecting the personal voices of those who have served, supported, and sacrificed through military life.

鈥淗aving the Resilience veterans monument on the 四虎影视 campus reflects the strong military/veteran community here and in the Sarasota area,鈥 said Lisa Goss, assistant director of Ringling鈥檚 Financial Aid and Veteran Services. 鈥淚t also reflects the resiliency that the 四虎影视 community has. Students, staff, and faculty withstand adversity and bounce back from difficult life events all the time. We are a remarkable community.鈥

The sculpture 鈥 now installed in its new home on the second floor of the Ulla Searing Student Center 鈥 made its way to 四虎影视 from Patriot Plaza, a 2,8000-seat ceremonial amphitheater at Sarasota National Cemetery. The Plaza was fully funded by The Patterson Foundation and was officially dedicated and donated on June 28, 2014. The space was designed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs鈥 National Cemetery Administration and provides a space that 鈥渉onors veterans, inspires patriotism, and embraces freedom.鈥

During the pandemic, Ringling Film students collaborated with The Patterson Foundation through the INDEX program to create and launch the Patriot Plaza Virtual Tour, 11 cinematic films produced and directed by the students bringing the civics class trip into the classroom and across the country. Watch the behind-the-scenes video highlighting the production and experience 鈥 one of the many client-driven project opportunities provided to Ringling students.

四虎影视 is proud to support their military family 鈥 20 veterans and 50 dependents of veterans are currently enrolled at the College and taking advantage of their VA education benefits. The College also participates in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides additional financial assistance to veterans and dependents who qualify for 100% of Post-9/11 GI Bill educational benefits and have reached the VA annual tuition cap.

During the dedication ceremony, Alyssa Quidachay 鈥24, Visual Studies, who comes from a military family read a poem written by Karen Brayden about how dandelions are the official flower of military children. 鈥淢ilitary children bloom everywhere the winds carry them. They are hardy and upright. Their roots are strong, cultivated deeply in the culture of the Military, planted swiftly and surely. They鈥檙e ready to fly in the breezes that take them to new adventures, new lands, and new friends,鈥 the poem reads.

Marcus Adkins 鈥23, Graphic Design, and president of the 四虎影视 Veterans Club read out the respected poem Invictus, by William Ernest Henley.

On Veteran鈥檚 Day, Friday, November 11, 四虎影视 of Art and Design will host a Celebration Luncheon, honoring those who have served, and who are currently serving in the US Armed Forces. Additionally, the College will host the third annual art exhibition , featuring portraits of local veterans created by 四虎影视 students and faculty in a variety of mediums.

This exhibition was created as a tribute to the stories of military members who have served and those currently serving in the military. The images tell stories from WWll, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and current serving troops, that will enrich the 四虎影视 community for years to come.

Community members are invited to stop by the Selby Foundation Gallery to see the exhibition which will be on display through December 9. Admission is free. Military/Veteran Affiliated Services at 四虎影视

In addition to these annual events, 四虎影视 is committed to supporting the creative educational pursuits of those affiliated with the military.

Lisa Goss is 四虎影视 of Art and Design鈥檚 Veteran Affairs (VA) Certification and Readmission Specialist. In this role, she works closely with military and veteran affiliated students and families to help them navigate the college process, often with the assistance of VA benefits.

鈥淎s the VA School Certifying Official (VA SCO), it is my mission at 四虎影视 to be a conduit of information for students using VA educational benefits,鈥 she explains. 鈥淲e will assist with charting the transition from military to campus life, and help promote the student鈥檚 knowledge of resources, self-growth, and connections in an effort to turn the student’s passion into profession.鈥

Military/Veteran Affiliated Services at 四虎影视 assists students and families with applying for benefits, providing information on how VA education benefits and the college processes work together, and connecting students with college resources such as academic advising, counseling, tutoring services, and financial aid resources.

鈥淚 came to 四虎影视 of Art and Design with a strong military family affiliated background,鈥 said Goss. 鈥淢y spouse retired from the Army with 28 years of service. I have worked in post-secondary education for over 25 years with scholarships and financial aid, guiding students through the college process and VA education benefits.鈥

Over the years, she has served on Readiness Advisory teams, worked for legislative changes to support the military affiliated, and connected with veterans across all branches from World War II to current conflicts through the power of their stories.

Currently, 四虎影视 has 84 military affiliated students using VA education benefits and 16 veterans representing the six US military branches. The College offers our US veterans and their dependents the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities while using their GI Bill education benefits to help fund their educational goals. The GI Bill庐 is a collection of benefit programs designed to help veterans and active-duty members of the military earn an education. The program also enables some family members of veterans to receive financial assistance to help with their schooling or professional training.

四虎影视 is proud to participate in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program which provides additional financial assistance to veterans and dependents who qualify for 100% of Post-9/11 GI Bill庐 educational benefits. 四虎影视 provides Yellow Ribbon scholarship assistance in the amount of $5,000, which is matched by the VA for a total of $10,000 for the year.

Veteran鈥檚 Club

四虎影视 also hosts the Veteran鈥檚 Club, a student-led campus organization that promotes the camaraderie of all former and actively serving veterans from across the world. The club shares stories internally and externally through art and outreach within the campus and local community and its veteran populace, highlighting artwork, service, and our community鈥檚 heroes.

鈥淚t is our goal to continue to grow and support military affiliated services here at 四虎影视 of Art and Design,鈥 said Goss. 鈥淭o start with, 四虎影视 has been approved for a new VA work study program (funding will come from the Department of Veteran Affairs), and for a VA Resource Service Liaison on campus who will help guide our military affiliated students towards resources that will promote success. I will continue to work with the Veteran鈥檚 Club to bring Student Veterans of America, a non-profit that addresses the needs and concerns of American military veterans in higher education, onto campus. This will open the door for additional scholarships and career opportunities for our military affiliated students.鈥

To be considered for the GI Bill programs, students are required to provide a copy of their VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and complete a request for certification form with the College’s VA School Certifying Official (Lisa) in the Office of Advising, Records, and Registration.
